Primary education

X-Maths is a jolly international math competition for primary school students, where Christmas cheer meets the thrill of solving puzzles!

Teaching our pupils in the weeks leading up to Christmas can be quite a challenge! The excitement with which they experience this magical season, when many children are counting down the days until Christmas, can be harnessed to set them some mathematical challenges specially designed for this festive time.

Objectives

  • Recognise the presence of Mathematics in everyday life;
  • Promote a love of Mathematics;
  • Frame the Christmas festive season in a playful way;
  • Develop and reinforce logical reasoning;
  • Consolidate the content taught in lessons;
  • Celebrate the effort and talent of our students

Target Audience

The participation age categories in the competition are:

  • Category A (pupils born between October 2018 and September 2019)
  • Category B (pupils born between October 2017 and September 2018)
  • Category C (pupils born between October 2016 and September 2017)
  • Category D (pupils born between October 2015 and September 2016)

In the case of pupils who are younger or older than their classmates, they must be registered in the same category as their classmates, rather than according to their date of birth.

Registration and Practice Sessions

Registrations should be made by the class teacher by completing the form available under the “X-MATHS” tab on the website www.eudactica.com, by 30th November 2025. Our team will respond to the registration request with:

  • Confirmation of registration;
  • A letter template for parents/guardians with information about X-Maths, requesting the submission of a participation consent form and a token fee of €0.50. After registration, the teacher should inform the organisers of the total number of pupils in the class who will participate. The collection of fees should be managed by the teacher;
  • Practice activities similar in style to the competition, for pupils to train with;
  • A teacher’s guide containing all the necessary information and procedures to implement the activity easily and successfully.

If you do not receive a reply within 48 hours of registration, please contact us at x-maths@eudactica.com or via WhatsApp at +351 966 208 191.

The competition

The competition will take place in the classroom on 10th December at 10:00 am. The activity will be sent to the teachers who registered their classes on 4th December via email. The same email will include a guide with instructions for administering and marking the activity. If you do not receive the email on 4th December, please contact us at x-maths@eudactica.com or via WhatsApp at +351 966 208 191.

X-MATH consists of a set of 15 Christmas-themed mathematical activities. There are 4 different tests, one for each year group. Display the math problems on interactive flat panels or whiteboards. Give students two minutes for each exercice before moving on. Answer sheets are provided, where pupils should mark their choices (all questions are multiple-choice).

The activity should be marked by the teachers themselves, following the instructions provided

in the administration and marking guide. Scores are awarded in “Christmas Baubles” (the marking process is very simple and quick).

Teachers should submit the results for each pupil by 12th December to x-maths@eudactica.com.

If necessary, for tie-breaking purposes, some students may be called to take a short tie-breaking test.

Results and Prizes

The final results will be announced on www.eudactica.com on Christmas Eve!

Prizes will be delivered by Santa’s Elves to the schools of the winning pupils when classes resume in January. Gold, Silver, and Bronze X-MATHS 2025 diplomas and educational games will be awarded to the top 3 pupils in each level. Pupils placing 4th to 10th will receive X-MATHS 2025 TOP10 diplomas. All participants will receive a digital certificate of participation.
